This assignment asked us to utilize various platforms to ideate, 3D model, and fabricate an eight-inch cube. The material used was 1/2" Baltic Birch Plywood. By creating a parametric 3D model that utilized sin waves and a 65% stopover on a CNC fabrication machine, the varying depths of the machine's cuts revealed the various layers of the plywood creating a unique texture and pattern.
Ideation:
By writing a variety of prompts, images were generated to act as inspiration for our initial designs.
Creating the 3d model
Grasshopper is a node-based visual coding language and environment that was used to create the initial wave-like structure.
The parametric model was then manipulated in Rhino 3D to create the final design.
Fabrication
The models were cut on a CNC machine and assembled into their cube form.
